On Wednesday, October 4, residents gathered at town hall to celebrate Italian American Heritage Month with the Orange/West Orange chapter of UNICO. Italian American month began in 1989 when President George H. W. Bush and the Congress issued a special proclamation for Italian American Month in 1989. It overlaps with Columbus Day, which falls on the second Monday of October.
She talked about UNICO, "For over 100 years, UNICO has served as a compassionate leader of the Italian American community to promote its heritage and to serve others. Their impact to local communities is shown by providing over $1 million dollars to support charitable, scientific, cultural, educational and literary projects."
