The Sparta chapter of UNICO — the country's largest Italian-American service organization — will unveil a monument in honor of Christopher Columbus Monday morning at Dykstra Park. "We've been trying to do this for many years and it's finally becoming a reality," said Ken Carafello, Sparta UNICO president.
"It's really near and dear to our hearts. We're excited about it, not only for ourselves, but for the entire community. I think it will be a nice addition to the community." The dedication ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Columbus Day.
