Bloomfield Unico received more than 200 fourth-grade essays, representing eight local schools. The 13 winners were: James Damiano of Brookdale School, first place, $125; Allyson Calle of Watessing School, second place, $75; and Emily Molina of Fairview School, third place, $50. Equivalent monetary gifts went to the top three's Home and School Association.
Honorable mentions went to Oakview School's Alexis Laviola and Elise Nephew, Brookdale's Giancarlo Serrano, Watessing's Jonathan Sacoto, Demerest School's Luis Laque, Franklin School's Arianna Erraz, Carteret School's Maria Isabel Borges. Berkeley School's Jaylin Matias and Cassidie Seven-Zamja Chandler, and Fairview's Anthony Testa.
