Home is the chef, home from the coast — and he's brought it with him. Seventeen years ago, Tim Magee left Reno for a cooking job a friend had snagged for him in Pisa, Italy. Along the way, he worked in various Italian kitchens (plus a quick stint back stateside), even, at one point, co-owning a restaurant recommended by the Michelin Guide and by Gambero Rosso, Italy's leading food and wine publication.
Magee eventually became the executive chef at Il Sale, a high-end restaurant in the hills near Livorno, a port city on the Tuscan coast. Now, Magee is back home in Reno, the chef-owner of the new Calafuria restaurant on South Center Street in Midtown. The restaurant takes its name from an area near Livorno.
