Southern Italy's agricultural industry has recovered in 2015 and 2016, according to data from the Ismea-Svimez Report. Added value, exports, and investments have grown more in the South than in the North. But the most significant sign is that youth employment has grown in the Southern sector (+12.9%)—more than the Italian average.
Youth agricultural entrepreneurship is also growing, with the South posting a positive balance of almost 20,000 businesses in the first few months of last year. “Agriculture is playing an important part in the fight against youth unemployment: new situations are being created in the South, which are using key innovations to interpret this ‘new agriculture,” commented Minister of Agricultural Policies Maurizio Martina.
